Growing Connections

The primary theme emphasized throughout 4-H Growing Connections is making healthy food choices. The curriculum is divided into five sections: Gardening, Food Safety, Nutrition, Food Security, and Food Preservation. Each section includes objectives, background information for the instructor, planned observations for evaluation, one to three lesson plans to choose from, and a list of supplies needed. Specifically designed with the “outdoor classroom” in mind, lesson plans include fun, hands-on activities where students learn by doing.

In the Bag! Families Sharing Science Together

This Leader's Guide and Activity Sheets combo teaches kids and adults about food and nutrition through science and reading. The 20 reproducible handouts and activity guidelines cover basic tastes, smell and taste together, and sound and smell together. Each section suggests books for the adult and child to read together and then do the related experiment. Helps build skills related to science processes, techniques and concepts, including observation, classification, estimation, prediction, and communication.

Pizza Garden, An Agricultural Adventure

For youth in 2nd to 4th grades. This agriculture adventure curriculum is designed for educators to teach young people about where their food originates from by using something children love to eat: PIZZA. Using 8 lessons and fun hands-on activities, this curriculum helps young people learn about nutrition, careers and language arts all at the same time.
